HEAD:  Cuboid and strong. The sides, front and upper planes are the same size. The cranial proportions are generally 6:4, although slightly shorter faces do occur. The stop is evident without being excessive. The best examples have ample head perimeter. The facial cranial line faces slightly inward.

FACE or SNOUT:  Normally it represents 40% of the total head. It is broad, cuboid, but off square and always black with well opened orifices.

MUZZLES & MEMBRANES:  Strongly pigmented in black.

 


EYES & LIDS:  The lids are always pigmented with black. The eyes are slightly oval and well separated. The color varies between, medium to dark brown, according to coat color. The color tone should not be lighter than hazel.

EARS:  Of medium size, set wide and high. Generally folded like a rose, on a level with the eyeline. If the ears are cropped, per tradition, they should be erect and of triangular form. The dog may be shown with natural or altered ear without consequence.

 PALATE:  Noticeable striae, with rosaceous tone.

 TEETH:  Deep set, extraordinarily strong. Offering a scissor or reversed scissor bite. Given their origins as a holding dog, a slight prognatiousness (undershot - bite) is acceptable. Wide transversal separation between the canines. Large molars and small incisors. The absence of a premolar is not a penalty

LIPS:  The disposition of the upper lips should fall over the lower lips flaccidly, forming flews. The lips are moderately thick and fleshy. The mucosas are of dark color, although they can appear rose colored. The dark coloration is desirable. The lip joints facilitate supplemental breathing and aeration.

OCCIPITAL ARCH:
  Slight, due to the firmness of the muscles of the nape of the neck.

NECK:  Cylindrical, thick and well muscled. The lower rim has loose folds which contribute to the formation of dewlap.

LOINS:  Open angulation with regard to the back, a gentle fall forming a curve. Height of the loin is normally 1cm. more than the height of the withers.

TAIL:  Thick set at the root, set high, flexible and tapering. In repose it may stray to the side. In action, it rises to a saber-like curve without being gay or spiraling over the loin. The ideal length reaches the hock.


 

CHEST:  Broad and deep between the forequarters. Should fall to the elbow, denoting strong lungs. Cylindrical ribs. Best examples have a wide thoracic perimeter, this is especially characteristic in bitches

FOREQUARTERS:  Straight, with strong bones. Well defined, muscles and elbows normally separate from the thorax.

 COLOR & COAT:  Somewhat wiry in texture, thicker in the withers, throat and crest of the rump. The brindle color can range from dark black, brown, chestnut, silver, gray or orange, to lighter shades of the same colorations. It can be of a tiger stripe (reverse brindle). Also uniform colors of black and ochre, the sand coloring can vary in its shading of light to dark. White markings can be found primarily on the chest, up the neck (corbatos) under the chin, as well as the bridle areas of face & head, and around the collar (acollarados), and on the extremities ( calzados ) toes, socks, and legs. The white markings should not exceed 20% of the total body color.
 

 HINDQUARTERS:  Powerful, well muscled. Due to their origin, there is little angulation. Pasterns: straight and strong. No spurs.

 

FEET:  Round, cats feet, not splayed. Toe nails usually black but can vary in color according to coat color.

ABDOMEN & RIBS:  High abdomen. Ribs not well defined at flanks, giving a slightly arched look.

SKIN:  Thick, elastic and loose.


HEIGHT to WITHERS:  In dogs approaching or exceeding the maximum size, the accepted dimensions should be proportionate between the extremities and the volume of the torso.

TOTAL LENGTH:  Usually 5cm. more than the height to the withers. Bitches are usually longer and slimmer than dogs.

CHARACTER:  Its overall appearance is intimidating, denoting power. The Presa is extremely affectionate, docile and well-behaved with its owner and family, but wary of strangers. Independent character and aggressive with other dogs, both of his own breed and other breeds. An excellent fighting-dog. Demonstrates a deep throaty bark. Especially endowed for the function of guard and defense, and was traditionally used to drive cattle.
